Saturday Going to the Sun

After breakfast of cereal and fruit in our room, we left Glacier Park Lodge for a short detour to Two Medicine Lake. Its actually in the park, but has no other access. Its a very pretty spot, with lots of hiking trails, boat rentals, etc.

GPL is a very cool place! My only complaint is a very weak internet signal! The common sitting areas are very comfortable; the dining room was great. Another gem thanks to the Canadian Pacific!

After Two Medicine we returned to St. Mary and started up the Going to the Sun Road. The weather was perfect! Great visibility under blue bird skies! The traffic on the road is OK, but the scenic pull-offs were packed full! So, had to pass on by on many ocassions. Missing some photo-ops!  When we got to the top at Logan Pass we couldn't find a place to park! So we continued on. Visited by a bunch of Big Horn Sheep crossing the road.

The scenic stops on the western side, on the way down, weren't so crowded. We figured it was because most of the popular hiking trails were on the east side. The ride down wasn't nearly as scenic as the ride up.  At the bottom you come to Lake McDonald - some nice little beaches; crystal clear water. Also stopped to see a rapids among the red rocks. It seemed like forever before we got to the Apgar Visitor center; after several loops around the parking lot, we finally found a place to park.

Our final destination for the day is Missoula, about two hours away. Beautiful Montana countryside; many miles with views of Flathead Lake. Our hotel is a Sleep Inn. Dinner next door at the Paradise Falls restaurant was excellent!

Its a little too far to go all the way home tomorrow, so we'll continue exploring and go over to Orofino, on Rt 12, which we have never seen. The home on Monday.
