Its hot! Long drive home from Orofino in 100 degree heat! We took Rt 95 from Grangeville, turned right at New Meadows, down through Council, Weiser, Emmett. That's a much better road than down through McCall, even tho its a little longer.
Oddly, the Best Western in Orofino was perhaps the nicest BW hotel we stayed at on the whole trip! And, we had earned enough points for a free room!
We arrived home at about 6:00PM. Everything is in order, thanks to the kids who looked after everything, including the cat.
Some thoughts and observations:
- 18 days is along time; maybe just a little long!
- The Taos behaved admirably! Great gas mileage, comfortable, no issues.
- If you really want to experience mountains, just go to Bear Tooth Pass! That surpasses anything we saw.
- Banff and Jasper were disappointing. Not only was it overcrowded, but the road through did not impress.
- Better to go to Waterton Lakes. That place is magical!
- Medora was fun, as always. I plan to inquire with the TR Presidential Library if they need volunteers to help "move in" next year.
- Of the Canadian cities we visited, Medicine Hat was the most interesting. Calgary is just too big.
- 4200 total miles, average mpg 39.4!!
