Friday in Calgary

We spent the day exploring Calgary. The weather was quite nice, partly cloudy in the 60s. We started out at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo. WOW! This is a world class Zoo! Its huge and our bad knees wouldn't allow us to see the whole thing. We were very impressed at the large size of the animal's enclosures. All native habitats, no cages. Landscaping throughout was awesome! Lots of kids and families here today, everyone having fun!

We left the zoo after about 4 hours and headed down to center city for a ride up the Calgary Tower. When it was built in 1967 it was the tallest structure in the city. Now, its not even close!  But what a view! The city's population is 1.3 million, and growing. And a great skyline. The annual Calgary Stampede is next week and seems like a big deal!

We drove around the city, checking out Princes Park. Lots of parks and lots of bike trails.

After we put our feet up for a few minutes, we went adventuring to a Thai restaurant around the corner. The hotel desk clerk had suggested it. Otherwise, we'd never have found it, never mind atually going in this odd looking door! But it was amazing! A family run business, it was beautifully docorated. We enjoyed a pork spring rolls, chicken satay and a stir fry cashew/chicken dish. Washed down with Thai beer. A fine meal!

Returned to our room to crash and watch Olympic trials from Eugene. Tomorrow we work our way to Banff.
